Mumbai is where finance, media and consumer brands meet, so a lot of the city's founders need a partner who can sell, raise and negotiate as well as one who can build. A technical founder here is often looking for a commercial co-founder, and the other way round.

The city also makes casual meetings expensive. "Let's grab coffee" can mean half a day across town, so it pays to know there's a real fit before anyone makes the trip.
